A Texas artist creating original fine art, updating heirloom furniture, and color consultation.
Karen Butcher was born in South Texas and currently lives in Houston. Her father, JC is an accomplished artist specializing in watercolor landscapes of regional areas of Coastal, Hill Country, and Big Bend Texas. Karen learned much about technique and subject, while under her Father's teaching.
A graduate of the University of Texas, Karen earned her degree in art and education. She spent the first several years of her career as an Art teacher.
After raising 4 children and assisting her husband build his business, Karen began working with designers, friends, and family redesigning and updating heirloom furniture. She has taken to this new endeavor with a passion.
She has found success and fulfillment bringing to new life tired aging furniture pieces, thus forming “à la vie” as a business. Through à la vie, Karen provides artistic re-purposing; utilizing her skills in design, color, and creative craftsmanship. Karen enjoys exploring the history and story behind each piece she works with giving a new look and feel to the piece as well as the environment it graces.
Her primary passion remains painting. Karen's subjects include: Texas landscape, Coastal Texas, impressionism, commissioning, heirloom photo to canvas, family pets, Farm and Ranch. She utilizes both acrylic and oils on stretched and panel canvas.
